Some Added Unwelcome Stress

We are now in serious house-hunting mode. Our current landlord had emailed us at the beginning of June, asking us if we would be interested in staying in the house until the end of September. We gladly accepted! Then, on July 31, he emailed that he wanted us out at the end of August.

Needless to say, this has caused us serious consternation. I pointed out that we had agreed on the end of September but apparently they want us out earlier. We have all of this in writing so, legally speaking, there is not a lot that they would be able to do. However, it's an unwanted and unpleasant stress in our lives. And, even though I am an attorney, we would much rather spend our time and energy finding a place that we will enjoy, than having any kind of conflict with our landlord.

So, as much as I would love to write about how we are feeling about the pregnancy and our future family, right now all we can think about is where we are going to be living and just how unpleasant this conflict is.

The stress is unexpected for me actually. I deal with landlord/tenant issues on a daily basis. However, as a lawyer I'm able to walk away from the conflict at the end of the day... and as long as I've done everything possible for my client, I generally feel fine. This is the first time that I can remember ever having a serious issue with a landlord of mine - and I've been renting for over 20 years... and in countries all over the world. Oh well.

  1. That sucks.

Once I heard about an angry tenant who left a mess for the landlord... but I have a feeling that you will have too much self respect to leave an unflushed toilet for this 'friend' of the family.
