The Dream Feed

I just got back from giving APL his first Dream Feed. A Dream Feed, as introduced to us by sister-in-law Catherine, is a feed given to a baby while he sleeps, in order to prolong his sleep and yours.

He had been asleep for a little over 2 hours. I prepared a 4 oz bottle and tiptoed into his room. I gently removed him from his bed and placed him on my lap. As soon as the bottle was in his mouth, he started sucking, eyes remaining shut. After every 20 or sucks he would take a break and just sleep. Ten minutes after I began, he was done. I put him upright against my chest and he slept in that position for a minute or two, body completely limp. Finally, I placed him back in his crib.

I don't think it would have been possible until now. The risk of waking him up into a crying session was just too great... but his evening sleeps have become deep and dependable. I often transfer sleeping APL from his car seat to his crib.

Dream Feeds are the future.

Epilogue: APL slept straight through until 3:30 AM! That means he slept through the night.
