Six Senses Yao Noi Part 1: Spectacular Speedboat Ride from Phuket

We were very excited to be heading to Yao Noi from Khao Lak. Yao Noi promised to be, based on my research, everything we had been looking for in a southern Thailand experience; stunning scenery, minimal development, and a beyond-amazing Six Senses resort.

Karin and I had stayed at the Six Senses Ninh Van Bay a few years ago and loved it. I had never experienced anything like it. When we discovered that there are three Six Senses resorts in Thailand, I immediately began researching options. All of the properties looked breathtaking but Yao Noi stood out; it offered an ideal combination of seclusion, beauty, and eco-luxury - and it reminded us the most of that unforgettable experience we had in Vietnam.

Our arrival at the pristine Ao Po Grand Marina revealed a perspective of Phuket that we had not previously encountered - uber-luxury yachts. Yes, Thailand is a country of extremes.

Soon after our arrival, we were greeted by Sunny, the Six Senses rep, and were directed to the high speed boat that would zip us to Yao Noi at 27 knots.

The boat ride to Yao Noi was spectacular. The scenery, coupled with incredible cloud formations, was stunning. The boat itself was very comfortable and the the 40 minute ride flew by.

I should say something about the cloud-centricity in the following pictures. I am a private pilot. There is a lot that I love about flying. One thing that I adore while cruising in the sky is studying cloud formations. The cloud formations I witnessed traveling to Yao Noi, and while at Yao Noi, were among the most spectacular I have seen in my life.

I have never seen anything like the cloud in the following picture. To my eye it appeared as though it was reaching up into another world.

Here is a close-up of the topping cloud after it had begun to dissipate. A beautiful - yet foreboding - sight.

The boat ride was awesome for Alexander. Check out that hair.

He loved the ride.

Coming up: Jaime has put his reputation on the line in terms of having chosen Yao Noi. Stay tuned (subscribe) to see how that works out (hint: it works out very well).
