I think I can confidently say that there has been another big change in APL. He is crying much less. He is smiling much more. And he is generally in better spirits more of the time. This makes life significantly more palatable - for us!
On the other hand, APL's sleep habits are changing only marginally. He does, on occasion, squeeze out a 3 hour nap. But there is still no sign of him making it to 5 hours. According to the anecdotal information we have been given, and most of the books (which seem to be largely anecdotal in substance, but stated in decidedly confident and authoritative prose), 5 hours is common some time around 3 months of age.
Since this will inevitably become our own personal history, I'm going to describe the day today. You may want to skip this part:
Last night, Karin fed the little guy at 9:00 PM, 12:00 AM, and 3:00 AM. I then got up with him around 5:00 AM. We hung out for a bit, he had a short nap, and then we hung out a bit more. I fed him at 7:00 AM. He then was then really ready to play. We played for about an hour and then he became fussy. He started yawning but instead of going to sleep, he started to cry. Why can't he just go to sleep if he's tired? A pseudo-swaddle later he was sleeping. He woke up from that 20 minute sleep in a great mood, ready to play. This is something that was really not happening even last week. Back then he was consistently crying upon waking up.
At 9:45 AM he was ready to eat again. I prepared a really lovely breakfast for him (5 oz of his favorite food) but just before he was to eat it, Karin emerged from the bedroom, ready to breastfeed.
At 12:20 PM we left for Dim Sum. We arrived at Jasmine to find our A#1 parking spot available. Inside we met Jimmy, Audrey, Tanja, Tanja's mother, Julie, Georgine, Geneen, and Tasha. T'was a fine Dim Sum. Karin fed APL while eating potstickers, sui mai, and assorted dumplings.
Dim Sum lasted past 3:00 PM. We headed north to possibly look at open houses. But APL was hungry and started crying - so we headed home first. Feeding lasted until after 4:00 PM so we ended up staying at home until we left for Zac and Kathy's house at around 5:15 PM.
Zac & Kathy's was good fun. Malcolm and Tina were there with their kids, as were Saul, Ann and HM. Lovely dinner. Always interesting conversation. Karin fed the baby.
Post-dinner, we headed to Todd's 30th birthday party. Many of the guests at Todd's party are from his basketball team so we were feeling rather towered over. APL slept the entire time at the party. He loves sleeping at parties.
And tonight, Karin drove my hybrid for the first time. I don't think she liked it very much.
It's now 12:45 AM on Sunday. Karin is feeding the baby. Hopefully he will then go to sleep and we will do the same.
