Safety First

APL's latest obsession is our computers. He goes from desktop to desktop (we have 2) and presses the power buttons. Once a computer is on, he will move the mouse around, watching the cursor, and click randomly. He also likes to bang heartily on the keyboards. His successes include turning on Karin's computer and logging in, and deleting all of the email in my inbox.

In an effort to stop him from seriously compromising her digital life, Karin has been taping cardboard in front of the power button. But APL is determined. No matter what she puts there and no matter how much tape she uses, he is able to either rip it off, or just push through to the power button.

Early this morning he had ripped off Karin's latest valiant attempt and was turning on and off her computer with abandon. I decided to take out the big guns; I went to the garage, grabbed our industrial-strength tape gun, loaded it with kryptonite-infused industrial packing tape, and taped that mother up so soundly that no mere mortal would be able to turn on that computer (sorry, Karin).

As I finished smoothing out and admiring my work, I turned to APL and smiled smugly, as if to say, "We're safe now, son". It was then that I noticed why he was so quiet; he had silently picked up my super-industrial tape gun and was taping himself to the floor.
